1. How do I get my featured post to look like the demo intro?

Also, how do you get the “read more” option to show up so not all of your text is on the main page?

1. @Brandi: For the featured post you can just mark the specific post as “sticky post” while editing your post via Posts/Quick Edit/”Make this post sticky” or you can see the option while editing a post in the “Publish” box (see Visibility).

You can find the “Read more” option as a “more” button in your text editor and as the “Insert More Tag” button in your visual post editor. With the buttons you can decide exactly where you want to include the Read more button.

2. I can’t get the menu to show in the tablet version. Nothing happens when I click Menu.
On larger screens the menu displays correctly in the left hand column.

Am I missing something?

1. @nchenga: Okay, I’m sure we can get that working. Could you let me know your site URL (you can also send it to me via the contact form) and also let me know, on which browser and device your are having trouble with the mobile menu.

1. @Jaclyn House: Yes, all our themes are optimized for mobile devices and for blogging directly from the iPad of course the WordPress iPad app is great, too.

Hi Ellen!

Happy new year! I absolutely love this theme and I have several questions:

1. How do I exclude “Comments” from showing on certain pages (e.g. all pages except Posts)?
2. It seems many people find the “paragraph” (post, page) font sizes rather large. How do I decrease the size? Or, how can I change the font AND the size?
3. For the Links in the Menu; how do I get them to open up a new browser window?

Thanks,
rem

1. @remi: Thank you so much and Happy New Year to you, too! Regarding your questions:

1. You can deactivate comments via your pages admin area (see the Discussion option). If you don’t see the “Diskussion” box you may need to activate it first via the “Screen Options” button at the top right of your WordPress admin area.

2. To change the font I would recommend using a child theme or the Custom CSS option. You would need to adapt the font-family styles (see style.css). Since this would be a customization I can give a detailed description here. Regarding the font sizes you would also need to check the sizes in the CSS and then adapt the sizes in your Child theme or via the Custom CSS option on the theme options page (it’s easy to find out about font styles using the Firebug browser add on by using the build in developer tools in browsers like Chrome, Safari or Firefox.

3. You can find that setting in your Custom Menu options (again you have to open the “Screen Option” button) and activate “Link Target”.

Hi!

How do I remove the comment # next to the “filter by”?

For e.g., now it’s: IMAGE January 7, 2014 . 0 comment . By Remi Lai

I want it to read like your demo: IMAGE January 7, 2014 . By Remi Lai

Thanks!

5. Hey!
Is it possible that all my post would appear as “sticked” ones?
I’d love my post to be situated one under the other.

1. @Maddy: You can add multiple sticky posts, but it not supported by the Namba theme to have all posts in a single column. You would need to customize the CSS (best in a child theme) to change the entire layout in this way.

Best, Ellen

1. @Maddy: Yes, you can just install the WordPress plugin “Codestyling localization” to add your own language for the Namba theme. You need to add a new language in the plugin, add your translations and then create the .mo file (see button at the top of the plugin settings) to add your translation for the Namba theme. You can find a detailed description for the plugin here: http://www.code-styling.de/english/development/wordpress-plugin-codestyling-localization-en

Hi there,

I just stumbled across your website last night while scouring the Web for WordPress themes, as I’m in the process of migrating off Squarespace and over to WordPress. I’m very impressed with your themes. In particular, you’re the first developer I’ve seen that when I use a “read later” service (i.e. Readability.com) on a post, the upper featured image is actually included within the post content. No other template I’ve seen does that. No idea how you did it but I’ve been looking for that feature desperately.

My real question though is with Namba. I really like the layout of the demo site you’ve setup but I noticed that when I click a post, the “featured image” effect is lost on the single post page. So on the home page, the featured image is above the post title but on the single post page, the featured image is below the post title.

Is there an option in this theme so that the featured images stays above the post title everywhere (similar to how Moka works)? If not and it requires a lot of work for you to add that feature, I totally understand why you can’t change it. I’ll probably still buy your Theme Bundle anyways because you’ve done an awesome job on your templates.

No need to reply to this, as I analyzed the WordPress templates and changed the entry thumbnail insertion order manually for consistency.

BTW I also figured out why your recent templates allow the featured image to be included within the Readability.com saved article. It’s because you defined the DIV container for the thumbnail as “entry-thumbnail”. For example, articles saved to Readability.com using the new Twenty Fourteen theme don’t include the featured image because it’s outside the entry-content area. As soon as you change the DIV class from post-thumbnail to entry-thumbnail in the theme though, voila Readability.com includes the featured image.

Hi Ellen,

I really love this theme, thanks for your creativity and all the sophistication in the code. I do wonder about a few things, and have a few suggestions and see if you may consider implementing down the road as a child theme…etc.

1. Is it possible to customize the “Post Formats (Namba)” widget, so we can change the names of the categories?

2. Suggestions:
I am trying to build a blog that will have sponsor ads. Currently the left column is a bit too narrow to do a typical 300px wide adsense ad. Will you consider, in the future updates, allow the user to easily customize (widen) the left column if they desire?

Will you consider allowing the user implementing a right column, and the width can be 300 px or wider (or at least, it can be customizable) ? The main content column will become 1 column instead of a split 2 columns if a right column is added.

Will you consider allowing a top navigation, instead of a left navigation?

Regardless, this is a beautiful theme. Thank you.
Irene

8. I write from Spain.

I have doubts on how to include an ‘intro text’ and apply ‘Dropcaps’ on the first letter of a paragraph. You can explain step by step?

Thank you very much.

9. Hi Ellen,

I stumbled upon your site after spotting Kiore Moana on WordPress.com. I absolutely love your style and am this close to purchasing Namba for my upcoming creative writing blog.

My question therefore is if it’s possible to keep the two-column lay-out that is displayed on your live demo. I plan to remove one or two of the categories under Popular Posts (or all of them completely) and have Namba show my posts as a typical reverse chronological blog. Is this possible? Is there a way to choose different lay-outs for the home page?

Thank you!
— Stef

1. Hi Stef,

thanks so so much for your positive feedback, that is so great to hear :) Regarding Namba, right now it’s not possible to change the layout to a default single column layout, we might add this feature in the future, but I can’t say in with 100% certainty at the moment.

All the Best, Ellen

Hello,

What a beautiful theme!

One concern I have is that I don’t have much experience working with code, so I am looking for a theme that is fairly out-of-the-box. Is there anything I should be aware of in this regard?

Specifically, with Namba, I wonder about the logo. Is is necessary for me to create my own logo (I’ve never done this before)? Is it possible for me to just plug in text for the blog title? What would that look like?

Thank you,
Stephen

1. Hi Stephen,

thanks so much for your great feedback, I’m happy that you like the Namba theme. You don’t need to create your own logo, the theme also comes with a default style for your site title and blog description text. At the moment it’s also not possible to change the layout of your blog/start page to a single-column layout (you would need to add custom CSS to achieve that). So the layout for your recent posts is always a 2-column grid layout for your blog homepage.

Please just ask me again, if you have any further questions.

Hallo Ellen,

Hi ,
I really love this theme.

I think design when the article is not found in archivs.php is to have collapsed.
Would you please check the css?

Thank You!

13. Hi! Your theme is simply lovely, I love it!
I just wonder how do you put thumbnails to the “More Popular Links” section, it only shows the links :(

1. Hi Ahtziri,

thank you so so much for your amazing feedback, so happy to hear that! If you add featured images in your posts admin area, the thumbnails in the widgets should show up automatically. Like in this post (http://66.147.244.101/~theinsw1/las-monedas-de-la-suerte/) you can easily add the image as a featured image/thumbnail to your post, instead of including the image inside the post content.

14. Hi Elma,

On the iPad when I click on Info, my Facebook box is not formatted correctly. (It does, however, appear beautifully on the desktop version). Is there a way to fix that?

I love your themes!

Raia

1. Hi Raia,

can you try to add the following CSS to the Custom CSS section under Appearance / Theme Options:
.widget_facebook_likebox iframe {
display: block !important;
clear: both !important;
float: none;
}
Please let me know, if this works.
Best, Ellen

15. Hello, Can you let me know how to get drop down menu’s (vertical and horizontal) working in this theme? Every time I try, the list is expanded by default but I would like it to expand on click

1. Hi Jared,
since the main menu in the Namba theme is in the left sidebar, the design does not use a drop down menu. The sub menus are only in a smaller, non-capital letter font. I hope you still like the Namba theme design this way.
Best, Ellen

1. Jared

HI Ellen,

Gotcha, One more question – any idea why the middle content area where the posts are does not render full page (its split in half) in Chrome but works in IE and Safari and firefox?

1. Jared

My monitor is set to 1920×1200 and after I drag the chrome window past a specific size from right to left, it seems to cut the post in half

1. Jared

Got it fixed :) It was the crazy setting that allows two posts side by side vs one row! thanks again – Jared

1. Hi Jared, thanks again for your feedback, is it working now for your with the single-column Namba layout? Best, Ellen

16. I love this theme! I just have one question – os there any way to make the custom logo bigger without it going off centre? Thank you!

Hello Ellen,
I need your help!!
How can I put the contact form in my Theme Namba?

I hope to hearing from you soon

18. Hi Ellen,
could you please give some support on the questions asked on the german page of Namba?!
And do you know, when the next update is coming?
Any of my posts is not should in a double column!
Please help us there.
Best regards,
Julian

1. Hi Julian,
I just replied to your comment in the German comment section of Namba. Could you please try to save the 2-column layout one more time on the Theme options page? If this is not helping, please let me know again and I will check your website code directly again.
Best, Ellen (and I’m sorry for the late reply to your questions)

19. Hi Ellen!

Even though I have selected 2 column option and saved it, my site is still presented as one column. That’s my first problem and I would be grateful if you can help me. :)

I like the design of Post Formats, they’re beautiful and colorful. I want to use the same design for the tags (which I have only 8 tags for whole blog) instead of formats. Is it possible?

Thank you!
Baris

20. Hi Ellen!
I love the Namba theme and it would be perfect for my blog, but I purchased it not realising I couldn’t use it on a free hosted WordPress site.
Will it ever be available to purchase in the themes section on WordPress? Or is there any way I can get it to work on my blog?
Thank you!
-Katie

21. Pascal

Hello Ellen,
Thank you for this great theme and for your work on the other. I want to know if it is possible to change the width of the left column please ?
Thank you for your reply
bye :-)

22. Hello, I’m enjoying the Namba theme, however some theme options changes I make don’t seem to register on the blog. For example, I have set the blog layout to two column, but it is still one column, and I have changed all of the custom colours but they all appear in their default shade. If you could please help me with this it would be much appreciated. Thanks again for an amazing theme :)

23. Hello Ellen. All your theme are wonderful, clean and easy, with no waste. I love this style. All my pages are with your theme, thank you. I looked everywhere, and it turned out that the best theme designers are so close.
Regards from Germany Gratiana

24. Hey, I just purchased this and was wondering which font you used in the category circles; the image, quote etc. circles.

25. Hi Ellen.

I am using the Namba theme on my website with jetpack. For some reason, article featured images don’t show on mobile? I have spoken to Jetpack about this but they can see no reason for it, and said that with a responsive mobile theme it should be fine. I wonder if you can help?

Thanks,
Niamh

1. Hi Niamh,
are you still having the same issue? I just checked your website and could not find any problems with the Featured images on my iPhone, which mobile browser do you use? Also did you check, that you have disabled the Jetpack mobile theme (see under Jetpack/Settings). Since Namba has a responsive layout, it does not need a mobile theme.
Please let me know, if you need further help.
Best, Ellen

1. Hi Ellen. Apologies, I have been ill. I disabled the jetpack mobile theme and am still having the same problem. The featured image does not display on the article page in chrome on android. It does display on the home page. I really need the featured images on the article page as most of my readers use mobile. Any ideas?

2. Ellen, further to this, I had readers check on their phones and the featured image is not displaying on iphone, samsung android or htc android.

26. Hello!
I love this theme so much! I get lots of compliments on it too, but I’m having some troubles. I can’t post or edit the pages. I get warnings…

I can make posts just fine!

Thanks for your help!!
Sheila

1. On all the bottoms of my pages I get warnings like these too. I had a friend look into it, and he said it was a theme issue. Can you help me!!??
Thanks so much!!

Warning: require_once(/home/nazo/sheilabocchine.com/wp-content/themes/namba/footer.php): failed to open stream: Permission denied in /home/nazo/sheilabocchine.com/wp-includes/template.php on line 503

1. Hi Sheila,
I just checked your website and the error messages are coming from the Mailchimp widget in the footer and not from the Namba theme directly. How did you include it? There might be something wrong with the code or with the way it was included.

Could you maybe try to get all widgets out of the Footer widget areas to see, if the error message disappears then? This way you can check, if one of the widgets causes the issue.

Please let me know, if you need further help.
Best, Ellen

2. Hi Sheila,
could you let me know, which warnings you get. Also please try to deactivate all plugins you have installed to see, if one of the plugins is causing the issue?
Best, Ellen

1. I think I fixed it! I didn’t have the right permissions! Thanks so much for help. I did what you suggested as well. I’m sure it’s a combo of that and changing the permissions.

27. KAT

Hi Elma,

Thank you for the theme! i’m having way too much fun playing with it.

One thing that would make me so happy – can I reduce the padding/margin around the logo? I managed to find my way around the css to reduce some padding in other places, but I can’t find this one!

I would just like it if the logo were a bit bigger so that it reached the edges of the box, or almost did. http://www.kwalkeryoga.com...

thank you for your help! x

28. Giusy

Hi, I love your theme and I’m thinking about to buy it, but I noticed that it isn’t managed the active item of the menu, isn’t it? If I’m in the contact page, in the main menu the label of conatct page is not highlighted. Could you help me, please? (Sorry for my English)
Best, Giusy

29. Hi i had a question, how do i make the logo box in the left corner smaller? I am trying to upload the logo but when i make the logo bigger it also makes the box bigger and looks awful! I just want the logo to fit in the box. Is there a way to do that? Thank you

30. Hi Ellen,
I am in love with this theme, it is so clean and beautiful!

I’m just wondering, is it possible to remove where it says ‘article’ next to the post title? I know that on the showcase page one of the blogs has managed to do this, but I can’t figure out how.

Many thanks
Lily

31. I love this theme!
My posts are not flowing after each other, there is a big gap before some of them. You can see what I mean here: https://www.alyshajane.com/

How do I get the posts to line up one after the other without a gap? Thank you.
